Allowing Fear in the Face of Courage

I know that sounds backwards. It’s meant to.

It’s meant for those moments when you are so motivated to step out and act out, but then you chicken out.

Like when that awesome song you love starts playing in your earbuds and you think you could just bust the most fantastic moves in the middle of the gym. But then real life comes into focus and you remember you are just not that coordinated.

Yeah…too many other examples to list. But what big life changing things have you missed out on by allowing fear in the face of a moment of courage. What God thing did you miss out on by quenching the spirit.

As we start taking ourself less seriously and understanding that what other people think doesn’t matter as much, we’ll get a lot more big things done. Because it is only God and His glory that will matter in the end.

Playing the Man Means Being Peaceful Not Passive

When men act like Godly men everyone wins.

Families are strong. Communities flourish. The local church is active as designed by God. And those truly in need are taken care of.

But passivity forced upon men by a godless culture has corrupted the view of proper manhood.

As men we must speak up and speak to. It’s hard. I know it’s hard because I want to just keep quiet and mind my own business most of the time. But often times that isn’t what we should do.

We become passive and disengaged because of fear really. We fear ridicule. We fear being ostracized. We fear being labeled something we are not.

But if we put ourselves last and stop worrying about what others may do to us or how we will be treated, then that is when He (God) will lift us up.

Put God first, family second, and put yourself third. And as we put Him first He will be the source of our strength and supply.

We have to live knowing that we do so for His glory always.

Be peaceful not passive. Stand up for what’s right. Stand strong for the truth in the face of opposition and fear. Pull courage from the source of strength that is our faith in Jesus Christ. Be a man after God’s own heart.

God cut off the head of Dagon

For reasons unexplained I watch the show Ancient Aliens. This week’s episode was mostly about a fake god that is mentioned in the Bible called Dagon.

In this story, told in 1 Samuel, the Israelites had taken the ark into battle against the Philistines. But, God was not with them. They thought that if they had the ark it would guarantee them the win. Alas, Israel was again in a state of sinful rebellion against God and He was about to teach them a hard lesson. They lost the battle and the ark.

The Philistines too will learn a lesson as God shows them that the ark is not merely another fake god.

Much the same today, the symbols and artifacts once representing our holy God have been taken and dishonored.

They have been used to prop up false doctrine and cults.

Just like the Israelites failed to understand that the ark was not God, and its presence was not going to produce victory in their battle without God, the “in name only” Christians of this day will fail.

My God is powerful and will bring glory to His name. To you and me His timing may be slow, but be assured that God will not be mocked or defamed without bringing a judgement against those who dishonor Him.

Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. When the Ashdodites arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord . So they took Dagon and set him in his place again. But when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord . And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor all who enter Dagon’s house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

Song of Praise in times of distress

When the enemy stand before me
You are there
When the storms of life surround me
You are there
When the trials of strife weigh heavy
You are there….

I call upon You, Lord
I call upon You, Lord
And I am saved
I call upon You, Lord
And …. I … am … saved!

You are worthy, Lord
You are worthy, Lord
You are worthy to be praised, Almighty God

You are my fortress,
You are my shield,
You are my comfort and my strength
You are worthy to be praised, Mighty God,

“I love You, O Lord , my strength.” The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord , who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.
