FYI, Amos delivered his prophecy against Israel somewhere between 760 – 755 BC. He lived in the southern kingdom of Judah.
Today, former FBI director James Comey chose to use parts of Amos 5:24 seemingly in response to General Flynn’s admission of guilt for lying to the FBI.
“But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
But that passage is part of a larger prophecy against Israel before its past destruction.
Is Comey forewarning of a much larger event to come, or did he just takes a passage and use it to his own meaning? Only he knows.
Here is the full context of that verse.
“I hate, I reject your festivals, Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies. “Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings. “Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. “But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
If we are simply throwing random words from the Bible at people, let me throw some at Comey from Amos.
“Do horses run on rocks? Or does one plow them with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,”
