Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Act Like Men

Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
1 CORINTHIANS 16:13‭-‬14 NASB

How do we “Act like men”?

There is a pervasive poison in our society that pushes men toward unacceptable behaviors. It is true that there does exist a population of overly aggressive men. But there is now becoming an even larger population of men who have no idea what it means to be a man or a leader.

The answer is to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your actions and thoughts. And any thoughts or actions contrary to the fruits of the spirit should be avoided (Galatians 5:22‭-‬26). Take the lead on something and own it, and do the hard things that benefits someone outside of yourself. Step out in faith and give God the glory when He brings you through.

Don’t miss it when your faith is being tested and don’t allow false doctrine and “modern manhood” cause you to be something you are not. Act like men. Be strong and bold in your faith. But let all that you do be done in love.

Do man things. Get dirty. Lead by example. Act in manly ways. Don’t be a pushover, and if you are attacked be prepared to defend yourself. Just always make sure you are not the aggressor. Treat all people with respect and love your neighbor as yourself. Help protect those who are unable to protect themself. Give generously and without grumbling. Provide for your family physically, emotionally and spiritually. Hold your brothers in Christ accountable.

And remember to allow your emotions to have a healthy outlet. Find a good friend to vent to and allow them to vent as well. Allow your gym time to be an outlet for reducing stress and frustrations.

Pray about fleshly temptations and find ways to keep yourself busy so you don’t focus on those desires. Tame your flesh. Go for a run, go lift weights, get on a bike, do something to focus your body on something other than the temptations that harm us and others. Find a group of men that will encourage you and make you a better man. And you too can help them grow.

Take care of yourself through meditating on God’s Word, doing Bible studies, reading books to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses, and then learn how to capitalize on those.

Doing this will help all of us to keep ourselves in alignment with who God wants us to be emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Act Like Men.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Nuggets of Awesomeness, More Details About F3

May the fourth be with you! Sorry, had to say it.

It’s Saturday and for the last 4 weeks that means an F3 beatdown workout with the men of F3 Northwest Arkansas.

Drumstick came to town from Georgia and was the main Q for the workout. He usually posts with F3 Cherokee, but is helping us get started in Arkansas.

We endured a great set of full body exercises and a good bit of mumblechatter. I think some of the men were counting by fives. But that’s okay because you exercise at your own pace.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to stick with this group is the purpose behind the crazy.

Fitness, Fellowship and Faith are the three Fs. And that matched the mission statement of OneChristianMan almost too well.

The creators of F3 wrote a book called Freed To Lead to explain why men need this F3 thing, and I agree. They also have a women’s group called FiA, because we all need this.

We need to keep our bodies, friendships and faith strong. This helps make sure we don’t fall into what the book calls SadClown syndrome.

God did not create us to be alone. The horrible epidemic of suicide among men is proof that our brothers are struggling with issues that are not being remedied by our social media heavy non-contact culture.

F3 helps men improve fitness, build real friendship bonds like they have not experienced in a long time, and strengthen their faith.

It’s like being on your high school or college sports team again, but with slightly more mature teammates.

Bonds are built with sweat and dirt. The workouts are held only outdoors all year long. They are free, open to all men and peer led. And as each man starts helping Q a workout he builds leadership skills and confidence over time.

Fellowship and faith come as you add in extra activities like lunches, hiking and trail runs, lake trips, etc. And faith is built by doing community service type work and fundraising events for special causes. Prayer and Bible studies are encouraged and are by invitation.

The Q of each workout is free to finish the workout with a prayer and testimony during a closing time called the Circle of Trust. But no one religion is preferred. Of course they will all know where I stand.

During the Circle of Trust the men each tell their birth name, age and F3 name. New guys tell about who they are and are given their new F3 name by the Q. The name is usually funny and/or somewhat insulting based on Qs preference and the friendly new guys (FNG) story. But everyone is acknowledged and respected.

My F3 name is Huckleberry, because I said my favorite movie is Tombstone.

Well, Huckleberry, is now the site Q for the F3 Northwest Arkansas Genesis AO. I see this as a ministry and I am using fitness as the lead in. Yeah, I’d say F3 fits right in with the purpose of OneChristianMan and I don’t believe in coincidences.

Your Next Big Goal or Stuck in a FoxHole

What is your next goal? Do you have one?

Sometimes after we achieve our career or fitness goals we struggle to ever move much past them.

When we don’t set new goals, we lack a motivating catalyst to move us forward.

We don’t take any more ground. We are stuck in this one foxhole of life achievement and just take aimless shots occasionally at the hidden obstacles ahead of us.

We must set new and bigger goals of we ever plan to move forward and take new ground.

It takes courage, dedication, faith and a willingness to do things that you may not like to do. And you know what those things are for you.

Set a new goal, make it a hard one, and go for it.

Failure is learning and a new beginning, but success is an end.

How Protein Helps You Lose Weight Naturally

I’m not a nutritionist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time years ago.

Being able to research published articles and reputable websites is important when you don’t want to run to the doctor every time you experience some new roadblock on your weight loss journey.

At the bottom of this post, I’m linking to an article on Healthline.com that highlights the importance of keeping track of of your protein intake when you start on a fitness and weight loss journey.

The net is that protein should account for around 30% of your Calorie intake or .7 – 1 gram of protein for each pound of lean body mass.

Why worry about your Protein intake levels?

  • Digesting and Metabolizing Protein Burns calories (your body has to work to digest)
  • Protein changes the levels of weight regulating hormones
  • Higher protein intake helps increase metabolism due to the high thermic effect
  • Higher protein intake helps reduce your appetite later in the day (helps reduce late night snacking and feeling of empty stomach)
  • Protein helps prevent muscle loss and metabolic slow down (yes, as you get more fit, your body will use less calories depending on your exercise levels and muscle mass. And if you are exercising and not getting enough protein, your body will start consuming your muscle mass for needed repairs)
