The Hidden Past That Kills You

I mess up. You mess up. Sometimes we might mess up big, life altering big. But those mistakes do not mean God loves us less than anyone else.

Did you ever hide a sin because you were ashamed? Did you and your parents ever decide to hide your sin?

Hiding our mistakes can be much worse than revealing them.

Life altering mistakes or sins may seem easier to deal with if we hide them, because we think we can minimize the impact or dodge scorn and gossip. Yet the emotional and health related impacts can pile up higher and higher the longer we keep that secret hidden and refuse to appropriately deal with it.

King David messed up big time, several times in fact. He admitted it. He also gave us examples of how we are supposed to deal with our failures and examples of how we should not deal with them. We should learn from the examples we have been given by our Lord through the inspired word.

For I confess my iniquity; I am full of anxiety because of my sin.
Psalms 38:18 NASB

Don’t pretend you are perfect. Always walk humbly knowing that everyone has sinned. Yet repent of your own sin, which means to turn from your sin. One day all things will be revealed. When you hide your mistake it is a cause of anxiety and will be used against you by the enemy and it can do hold you back from moving on to full life.

Anxiety and fear cause many health issues in life and a full healing can never take place until you open those past wounds that were never cleaned out and remove the infection.

Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops. “I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him.

Luke 12:1-5 NASB

Don’t deceive yourself or anyone else. Hiding your past mistakes will not make them go away and it won’t help anyone else learn from your mistake. It also delays the healing and reconciliation process while causing anxiety within you.

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

1 John 1:8-10
