Rediscovering Christian Courage in Modern Times: Living Out Christian Manliness

Our world is increasingly characterized by moral ambiguity and cultural shifts. The call for Christian men to stand firm in their faith and exemplify Christ-like courage should be more pertinent than ever. Christian manliness isn’t just about strength or bravery; it’s about embodying the virtues of Christ in every aspect of life – from personal stewardship and family life to church involvement and societal engagement.

Stewardship: Honoring God with Our Resources

Christian manliness begins with managing what God has entrusted us – our time, talents, and treasures. Stewardship is a reflection of our relationship with God. In Matthew 25:21, Jesus says, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” This principle should guide our decisions and actions, whether in financial matters, career choices, or the use of our abilities.

Family: The Cornerstone of Society

The family unit is a vital component of society and the church. Ephesians 5:25-28 calls men to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and Proverbs 22:6 emphasizes the importance of raising children in the ways of the Lord. Christian manliness in the family context means being a loving, present, and godly leader, setting a Christ-like example for spouses and children.

Church Involvement: Building the Body of Christ

Active participation in the local church is a hallmark of Christian manliness. Hebrews 10:24-25 urges us not to neglect meeting together but to encourage one another. Being part of a church community isn’t just about attendance; it’s about contributing to the body of Christ through service, encouragement, and spiritual growth alongside fellow believers.

Opposing False Teachings: Standing for Truth

In an age where false teachings and doctrines subtly infiltrate the church, Christian men are called to be discerning and courageous in upholding Biblical truth. Jude 1:3 exhorts us to “contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” To contend requires a deep understanding of scripture and a willingness to speak the truth in love, even when it’s countercultural or unpopular.

Societal Engagement: Being Salt and Light

Christian men are called to influence society positively, being ‘salt and light’ as Jesus described in Matthew 5:13-16. To influence involves engaging with cultural and societal issues from a Biblical perspective, promoting justice, compassion, and truth. It means living out our faith privately and in the public arena, impacting the world for Christ.

A Call to Action

Christian manhood in modern times is a call to a higher standard that transcends cultural norms and reflects the character of Christ. It’s about living a life of integrity, love, and boldness in the face of societal pressures and moral relativism.

As Christian men, let’s embrace this call with determination and faith, trusting that as we do, we will grow in our walk with Christ and impact those around us for His Kingdom. Let’s live out our Christian manliness in a way that honors God and draws others to the truth of the Gospel.
